Match report
After what seems an eternity waiting competition rugby returned Ynysowen played Hirwaun away in their first game of the WRU bowl competition. The Weather was kind and it was a good day for potentially free flowing rugby.
The Ynysowen squad were missing a few players through injury and other commitments but never the less took the game straight to their opponents straight from the off and out scored there rivals 6 tries to 3.
Both teams looked to play expansive rugby which was very good to see. One clear observations was both teams struggled to get used to the new rules so there were quite a few penalties and free kicks given away. Hirwaun being awarded penalties in the right areas of the field and deciding to go for the post on lots of occassions ( their outside half didnt miss much eithier he kicked very well ). The Ynysowen pack dominated the scrum but the lineout still needs a little work as there was no continuity from both teams.
Coaches view- Lots to work on still but great effort, attitude and fitness from all 22 players. Scrum went very well again which was pleasing to the eye. The backline played well with ball in hand and defence stood up well some big hits were being put in. The last 15 mins of the game the score was very close but Ynysowen did score 2 tries in the final 10 mins to wrap the game up and that was down to pure fitness and determination. The boys seem to under stand every game is going to be tight and most will be decided in the last 20 minutes.
The boys would like to thank the committee members and volunteers who helped throughout the day to get the kit ready, run the water on, cover the first aid, run the touch line and collect the kit at the end.
First wru bowl game first win of hopefully many. 1 from 1
