The Sharks narrowed the gap at the top of division 3 central with victory in the Rhondda at the start of a busy period for the Merthyr valley side. The visitors started brightly winning plenty of possession but were let down by some handling errors. However they quickly put this behind them with some good passing along the three quarter line. left wing Jarrold Jones made good ground before he was tackled but he managed a neat off load to Thomas Hughes who raced clear. They quickly followed this up with more good handling amongst the backs which released full back Chris Davies. He made inroads down the left before finding wing Jones who squeezed in at the corner. Prop forward Gerwyn Morris showed great athleticism at the restarts taking some difficult balls at ease to maintain possession for his side.Jake Hurley stole a line out to begin another attack with a forward drive but the ball was eventually spilt. The hosts responded with a series of pick and drives as they attacked close to the rucks which were well defended by the Sharks. Scrum half Lloyd Davies was varying play nicely and keeping the pressure on with some astute box kicks. From an attacking scrum number 8 Andrew O' Keefe found Davies who in turn passed to Gavin Richards who showed good foot work to waltz in at the posts for a try which he also converted just before the interval. More good handling soon after the break released young replacement Gavin Wathen who galloped over from twenty five meters. Jamie Caviel was busy in the tight and a turn over released wing Craig Maybanks who made good ground before a good cover tackle bundled him into touch. Powerful centre Lewis Hughes was proving a handful for the defence and he broke three or four tackles to score close to the posts with Richards again converting. The Sharks were now fully in the ascendancy and attacking from all corners of the field. The ball was shifted through several pairs of hands before arriving with O'keefe on the left. He made ground and threw an outrageous dummy to wrong foot the defence and race over for a try. Two minutes later the ever busy flank forward Luke Price gathered the ball and sent off on a arcing run to score wide out. It was one way traffic now as Ferndale tired. A well weighted chip ahead was nicely gathered by replacement Rhyan Williams and he crashed over. The final and ninth try of an entertaining afternoon came after more good handling with Price skilfully flipping the ball on to the dangerous Dewi Morris who ploughed his way over. Whilst the coaching team will be pleased with some aspects of this performance they will realise that there are some areas to be worked on in training this week. Saturday sees the visit of third place Sully Sports to The Willows for a 2:30 kick off.
