Before the game kicked off we did hold a minute silence in memory of Terry Munkley who passed away sadly 6 years ago. This was fully respected by all. 

Match report

After what seems an eternity waiting rugby returned to The Willows on Saturday as Ynysowen entertained close neighbours and rivals Cefn Coed in a friendly. The Weather was kind and a good crowd enjoyed a lively run out for both teams.

The Ynysowen squad made up of some regulars and some not so regulars lost a hard fought game 12-7. Ynysowen crossing for 1 try and Cefn crossing for 2.

Both teams looked to play expansive rugby but with little continuity as there were far to many drop balls and penalties given away throughout the game. There was very little between both teams with the Ynysowen pack coming out on top of the ruck area but the Cefn backs looked sharp with ball in hand. 

Coaches view- Lots to work on but great effort and attitude from the players. Scrum went very well especially in the final half of the match. Good to get some minutes into the boys legs and pre season showed to have worked with the boys having good fitness levels . Nice to see so many old and new faces around the club enjoying the game.

No game next week but there is a touching rugby tournamenmt down the willows from 1pm onwards. If anyone wants to enter a team then contact a committee member to put your team forward. *****First WRU bowl fixture is against Hirwaun rfc away 14th Aug*****
